New Bollywood film puts media under fire

Indian media is under fire in a new Bollywood movie that will subtly ask journalists to investigate what is behind the news rather than just presenting facts.“Breaking News”, being directed by N. Chandra, narrates the story of six characters living in Mumbai, India’s financial capital, and focuses on real life issues like unemployment, migration, the notorious underworld and religious fanaticism.

The film will show how demanding city life sometimes provokes a person to commit an act that becomes news and calls on the media to be sensitive while reporting such incidences.

“The film raises real-life instances faced by people living in Mumbai, ” said actor Parvin Dabas.

“It deals with issues like unemployment, mafia, a Muslim man struggling to buy an apartment for his family in the city because of his religion, etc.”

“It asks the media to play a far bigger role in eradicating these problems.”

Shooting for “Breaking News” is complete, Dabas said.

The film is likely to be released next month.

Bollywood is also currently making “Showbiz”, a film that slams Indian media for sensationalising news.
