Stars to miss Thodi Si Zameen a lot

Smriti Irani’s first show as a producer Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Asmaan is going off the air next week. This was Smriti Irani and Balaji’s first joint venture. However, later on Balaji decided to part ways with Smriti’s Ugraya production. As the show goes off air, we spoke to some of the cast for their views and memories of the show.

Kiran Karmarkar: “This show was truly different – from the storyline to casting and more. I am going to miss it for sure. I enjoyed working with Smriti. I think the confusion over show timings hurt the serial’s chances. Earlier, it was Saturday-Sunday, then only Sunday, later Friday and Sunday. That’s not all; it started as a half hour show and then was changed to an hour so people never exactly knew when the show used to come on air. Even after the show completed a year nobody had seen the promos. It hardly got the publicity it deserved. We have not been informed when will be the last episode yet.”

“Once I and Smriti were doing one scene where she was unconscious and I was with her. I was mentally challenged earlier but now she comes to know that I am perfectly normal. I had to shut her mouth and tell her not to reveal it to anyone. That scene was amazing and after that Jaya Bhattacharya appreciated me and her attitude towards me completely changed. She started talking to me a lot. It feels nice when people change their way of looking at you after watching your performance.”

Sanjeet Bedi: “I am going to miss my character Munna a lot though I am not going to miss my off screen team because it is same for Virrudh. This show was really close to my heart as it was a different and nice. We had fun with the entire cast and crew. I am especially going to miss Jaya a lot as she is a good friend of mine. I think this Friday is our last episode and we are going to shoot on Tuesday for that. Smriti threw a party before we completed a year. She likes to party a lot so I am sure there will be a farewell party soon.”

“For me every day of the show was memorable. I had to do many stunts scenes, so everyday I used to get hurt on the sets. Once I broke my rib, on another day I broke my leg. We used to shoot in an authentic chawl. It was all so great.”

Jaya Bhattacharya: “I am going to miss this show a lot since it was like a family for me. We used to enjoy shooting together and also helped each other a lot. I will miss Sanjeet, Smriti and Rekha Rao the most. Smriti told me that there will be a farewell party sometime soon.”

Shama Deshpande: “Though I am not shooting with them anymore, I am going to miss it. It was really a very different show unlike the typical saas bahu ones. The cast was really good and the performance of every actor was noteworthy. The atmosphere on sets of the show used to very homely and I was very comfortable working with Smriti.”

Thodi Si Zameen is about Uma’s (Smriti Irani) family, who resides in a chawl, and their struggles to save the chawl which her in-laws want to destroy. The show will be replaced by Nach Baliye 3, which is going on air from September 22.
