Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), Greater Noida in association with MART, a leading rural marketing and livelihood consultancy organized its flagship event “INDIAN MARKETING SUMMIT” on ‘Inclusive Marketing: Innovative Strategies for the Development of Masseson 22 -23 Feb.,’08. BIMTECH’s 2nd Indian Marketing Summit (IMS) provides a platform from where India’s business leaders, decision makers from government, corporate practitioners, donor agencies, NGOs, senior managers and academicians discuss and share insights and experiences on key issues of national interest.

The structure of summit includes a number of sessions on specific sub-themes related to this overall theme. BIMTECH’s 2nd Indian Marketing Summit will comprise 6 sessions in all - The Reality of Mass Market; Impediments to Address the Real Problems at the base of the Socio Economic Strata; Innovation in Marketing Strategies; Appropriate Technological Interventions to Improve the quality of life; Role of PPP in empowering the Down Trodden and Valedictory Session.

“The subject, Inclusive Marketing is of great relevance to any economy which has to maintain a uniformity in its growth, which is characterized by development at all levels of the society.”Inclusive Marketing” will require identifying key stakeholders and developing a vision ensuring better tomorrow for the masses through capacity building,” is what Ms. Rama Bijapurkar, Market Strategy Consultant had to say.

In India there are 650 million people who survive on the income which is less than US$ 1 per day. Comprising 30% of India’s market, this section of the population is viewed as a bin for obsolete products. And here comes the responsibility of the corporate sector who look at this section as a potential rural market. Appreciting the initiatives taken by ITC e-chaupal and project SHAKTEE, he emphasized that rural marketing should try to include poor in the pre market system and work towards getting this 650 million people out of poverty.

Working as an advisor for rural development for the last 20 years, he added that Rural Marketing so far is not a sustainable model since it depends largely on funding. Hence steps need to be taken to increase the scale of production and generate profitability.”

Dr. H Chaturvedi, Director BIMTECH said, “BIMTECH strongly believes in contributing to the national development in a strategic manner by providing such platforms. After roaring success last year, BIMTECH’s 2nd Indian Marketing Summit has been specifically designed to address the most critical aspect of Indian Economy – keeping in mind the 11th 5 Year Plan where Inclusive Marketing has been emphasized. Such platforms with high profile speakers like Ms. Rama Bijapurkar, Market Strategy Consultant; Mr. Don Feil, EnterpriseWorks/VITA; Mr. Govind Rajan, HUL; Mr. Sameer Suneja, Perfetti, Mr. U.K.S. Chauhan, NAFED….will make invaluable contribution to help carve the path forward.”
